It has become tradition that after winning the Stanley Cup, each of the team members that contributed gets a day with the iconic trophy. Then there’s Alex Ovechkin, who seemed to spend the entire summer with Lord Stanley, but we digress.

What some younger fans may not know is that this tradition only began in 1995, and before then the players didn’t get their day to swim with it, sleep with it, or maybe hold hot dogs with it. As a result, many hockey legends don’t know the feeling of getting to spend the day with the sport’s most prestigious prize.

One of those was Bernie Parent up until recently when he finally got his day. In a heartwarming video posted by the NHL, Parent can be seen like a kid on Christmas as he gets to spend more time with the beautiful trophy.

Parent helped the Flyers to two Stanley Cup Championships in 1974 and 1975, both of which Parent won the Conn Smythe Trophy to cap off two Vezina Trophy winning seasons. It is widely thought that these two years may be the most dominant back-to-back seasons ever by a goaltender.

Enjoy it, Bernie. You earned it!
