Johnny Gaudreau was on the unfortunate end of some questionable refereeing in Calgary's game against the Avs on Wednesday night and he totally lost his cool.
Gaudreau, after already taking a skate to the throat earlier in the game, was high-sticked in the neck by Blake Comeau, prompting him to flinch (WATCH HERE). For some reason (We’re assuming referees are particularly sensitive to heads snapping back), he was assessed an embellishment penalty. Then, he started arguing the call from the penalty box and the refs threw him out of the game with a 10-minute misconduct.
It was a quick turn of events for a team that is in the middle of a playoff race and was trying to climb back into a game against one of the teams that they’re competing for a spot with.
After the game, Glen Gulutzan shared his thoughts on the moment.
What adds a little bit of extra sting to this is that it probably take Gaudreau out of contention for repeating as a Lady Byng winner. The trophy is awarded for sportsmanship and usually has something to do with having very few penalty minutes.
He doubled his total last night and has now accumulated 20 minutes more than last year where he only had four penalty minutes.
Needless to say, fans were just as fired up as Johnny was.
