Football is definitely a sport that carries a lot of colourful personalities. Whether it’s college ball or the NFL, or just about any other league, there is a lot of pride and enthusiasm with the way players carry themselves.

Football is up there with one of the most entertaining sports when it comes to athlete personalities, but it lives in the shadow of the undisputed king. The personality king. The world of the WWE.

The super dramatized athletic showcase that is the WWE prides itself on theatrics, and with that comes personality. It’s no surprise that the organization has turned to pull personalities out of football to put them on a stage where their flash and flair can really shine through.

According to Sports Illustrated, five former NFL athletes will be attending a WWE tryout. Here’s the list:

James Wilder Jr: The exuberant running back who spent time in the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills organization, but became known for his star role on the Toronto Argonauts during their Grey Cup run.

Taiwan Markis Jones: A linebacker (not the former Raiders and Bills RB with the same name), Jones played in three games back in 2016 with the New York Jets. He also signed with the AAF’s Memphis Express just before the league folded.

AJ Francis: The defensive tackle played with six different NFL squads between 2013-2018, but only appeared in nine games total. Most of that work came with Washington in 2017.

Chris Martin : No, it’s not the lead singer of Coldplay. How cool would that be though? This Martin, an O-lineman, spent three season amongst five NFL teams before signing with the Ottawa Redblacks and eventually the Orlando Apollos of the AAF.

Kristjan Sokoli : A former 6th round pick of the Seattle Seahawks, he made one special teams appearance in 2015. He is the first Albanian-born player to appear in an NFL game.

We’ll see if any of these former footballers find success in the WWE, only time will tell.
