Joe Thornton’s beard has become somewhat synonymous with his career and now a new era in Thornton’s career has begun.

Last night, Brent Burns shared a photo where he was starting to shave Thornton’s beard. His team and basically everyone else in the hockey world felt the loss and mourning set in last night. Then his teammate Evander Kane shared a photo of the final results (In potato quality).

He’s looking like a totally new man.

The beard started toward the end of the 2014-15 season and has been growing ever since. We’ll miss his beard a lot and hopefully Burnzie doesn’t follow in his footsteps. If he does, we’ll really need some new players to step up and embrace the beard life.

Time to update all photos of Jumbo Joe.
