Filip Forsberg will always be connected to what is now looked at as one of the worst trades in NHL history.
Just a couple of days ago was the five-year anniversary of the Washington Captials trade with the Nashville Predators that swapped Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat and Micahel Latta. The trade was made as an attempt for the Capitals to get some extra depth in their lineup before the playoffs, but the team probably would have been better off inserting Forsberg into their lineup.
Erat only scored 2 goals for the Capitals and was often a healthy scratch before he requested a trade out of town. Because the team was so strong, the Capitals continued to have regular season success, but as Forsberg pointed out, that doesn’t mean much.
It honestly seems like he’s just trying to say that the team is more concerned with playoff success over regular season success, but the fact that he shouted out the team that traded him made it look like he was throwing shade.
Looking at the replies to that tweet, that definitely seems like that’s the way fans understood it.
And who knows, the team seems more than willing to poke fun at the Capitals for that trade, so maybe he feels the same way. We’re sure the Capitals aren’t too thrilled about it either way.
