When Daniel and Henrik Sedin announced that they would be retiring at the end of the season, hockey fans across the world were absolutely shocked. Kind of like how some hockey fans may be slightly shocked that Brad Marchand wished them a happy retirement on Twitter.
Marchand has gotten under the skin of a number of opponents throughout his career, but one of his most memorable run-ins was with the Sedin brothers during the 2011 Stanley Cup Playoffs when he hip-checked Daniel and washed his face with his glove repeatedly.
Despite the perceived bad blood, Marchand went out of his way to congratulate the two brothers on their decorated careers and even called them the "best play makers to ever play the game."
Now, obviously it's one hundred percent possible for opposing players to leave on-ice feuds on the ice, but some fans just couldn't quite comprehend why Marchand had chosen to send the congratulations message.
For the record, we can 100 percent see how this would be totally sincere. But we also understand the confusion from some fans.
