The Fighting Irish are on top of the Women’s basketball world, and their road to glory was filled with plenty of drama.

With seconds left on the clock in tonight's National Championship against Mississippi State, Fighting Irish star Arike Ogunbowale tossed up an off-balanced prayer and drained what appeared to be an impossible shot. Shortly after, Notre Dame’s bench stormed the court.

You can’t make this stuff up!

The referees determined there was .1 seconds left on the clock, but the minimal time predictably led to a meaningless play. Following the win, basketball fans expressed their disbelief with the historic shot.

Today’s victory wasn’t the first nail-biter Notre Dame won this weekend either. With a second remaining in overtime against the number-one ranked UConn Huskies on Friday night, it was Ogunbowale who once again prevailed as the game’s hero after nailing a jump shot to give the Irish a 91-89 victory.

The championship was Notre Dame’s first since 2001 and second in the women’s program’s history. The last National Championship to end with at least a three-point margin of victory came in 2006, when Maryland defeated Duke 78-75 in overtime.
