Everything to do with the Vegas Golden Knights this season seems like it was written in a fairy tale.
In their first year of existence in the NHL, the team won their division, broke just about every record for a team’s inaugural year and now swept their first ever playoff series. Within all of that, there have been a lot of players who have become the success stories in Vegas, proving that a change of scenery can do a lot.
William Karlsson, Marc-Andre Fleury, Jonathan Marchessault and Derek Engelland seem to grab most of the headlines, but one player who has really emerged as a major contributor for the team is Brayden McNabb. Last season, his average ice time had dropped to a career-low 15:04 on the Kings and this season he’s playing big minutes on Vegas’ top pairing.
The Kings gave up on him in a decision that directly backfired, because he scored the only goal in the final game of their series against the Golden Knights, eliminating them from the playoffs.
Everybody’s first thought when talking about this Vegas team is about how they have been able to prove all the fans and media wrong after they were picked by most to be in the basement of the league, but they forget about the old teams. These teams chose to expose the players taken in the draft, some even incentivized Vegas to take some of these players and they have worked together to make history.
This team is a bunch of outcasts that will look to continue to prove teams wrong.
