After being acquired by the Tampa Bay Lightning last season, Louis Domingue is going to endear himself to fans very quickly with his new mask.
Designed by David Gunnarson, the mask prominently features two Lightning legends, Martin St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier, as well as a nod to a Tampa institution in the Gasparilla Pirate.
This is so good that it almost feels like pandering, but it’s really just a great way of showing some appreciation to two hockey greats. If it scores Domingue any points with the home crowd, then hey, that’s great for him!
Earlier this year, Domingue opened up on the trade that sent him to St. Louis. After being dropped to third-string goalie for the Arizona Coyotes, Domingue nearly even quit hockey before the trade to the Lightning offered a fresh opportunity in the NHL.
