Drew Doughty is a confident hockey player and if you really wanted to you could probably find any outspoken hockey personality showing some kind of doubt in Vegas’ chances this season.
Unfortunately for Doughty, he also happened to be on the team that Vegas ended up sweeping in the first round. He also stuck to his guns a little longer than he should have for this prediction.
The Golden Knights started out hot at the beginning of the year and many of people expected them to regress in the standings, including the Kings’ star defenceman. In December, Doughty was quoted specifically calling out the Golden Knights, saying that they would not be better than the Kings by season’s end.
Of course, as the internet always does, they made sure to remember that.
It didn’t help that it was also pulled up on the broadcast last night, so people have been calling out Doughty all day after his team was swept. In a truly bizarre NHL season, more than one of the events that occurred in the Golden Knights series seemed totally surreal.
