Lou Lamoriello is a name that carries a lot of weight in the hockey world and with that he’s able to run things his way without much opposition and it will likely be the same way in New York.
Lamoriello was recently brought on as General Manager of the Islanders and it appears as if some of his rules may already be having an impact. His most popular rules are the ones about facial hair and alcohol on team planes, but it’s also been rumoured that he feels strongly that the majority of players should not wear high numbers.
We’re not sure when a number becomes “High”, but fans have already noticed that Josh Ho-Sang’s number 66 has been changed in mini-camp and they’re starting to blame Lou.
As Reagan King pointed out, Ho-Sang had been wearing the number 26 in Bridgeport, but any time he was called up to the NHL he would switch back to 66. He also wore 66 in development camp last season.
All in all, this is a really dumb storyline in the first place. We’re kind of sad to see the number go if this really is the end, mainly because it’s absurd that people were angry in the first place when he wore the number. Either way, we just hope Ho-Sang is able to wear whatever number he wants. If it was his decision to wear 26, then that’s all good with us.
