Going to the ball game is a relatively safe affair, but there is one massive, glaring hazard (beyond COVID, that is). At any moment, a line drive foul ball can be zipped into a group of unsuspecting fans. Furthermore, a little more rarely, a bat can escape the grasp of a hitter and become a projectile into the crowd.
While this is never something we want to see out of fear that someone could get hurt, it does allow fans to have some pretty swaggy moments too.
On Sunday, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim infielder José Rojas had his bat escape on the follow-through of a 2nd inning pitch. Immediately you see the concern set in for Rojas as a terrified gasp takes over the stadium. Luckily, the fan it was headed towards was ready, despite being in the middle of a phone call!
“Yeah, sorry, one second. One of the Angels players just threw a bat at me. Okay, continue,” – That fan, probably.
