Although LeBron James’ decision to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers is probably the top story of NBA free agency, Day 2 provided us with something that may just match it: DeMarcus Cousins is somehow a member of the Golden State Warriors.
Just about everyone was surprised by this news, which, sure. That’s to be expected. However, another party that doubted the chances of Boogie ever going to the Warriors was, believe it or not, the Warriors themselves.
Hey, that makes sense! The Warriors pulled one of the NBA’s top centers for less than a quarter of what Serge Ibaka makes next season, and even if there was some reasonable doubt in the market on throwing money at a big man who had just suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, it’s still absurd that the Warriors (the Warriors!) were able to get him.
Look at it from Boogie’s angle, though. He needs to rehabilitate his leg, and he needs to rehabilitate his market value. What better way to do it than by signing a one-year contract to play with four of his fellow All-Stars?
What an absurd time we live in.
