It’s been a tough year for the Columbus Blue Jackets. The blockbuster deal they made at the beginning of the year hasn’t exactly panned out thus far, and now they’re on an unsightly 8-game winless streak.
Having only picked up one point since April 6th, goaltender Elvis Merzļikins has clearly had enough. Following the Jackets’ loss to Tampa Bay, the Jackets’ goaltender was a little extra spicy in his presser, clearly overwhelmed with frustration.
The particularly touchy subject is referring to the Lightning’s second goal, when Alex Killorn’s stick came up to hit Merzlikins up high. There was no call on the play, and apparently he wasn’t too happy with the lack of explanation from the refs.
While Jackets fans likely feel pretty similar to how Merzlikins is feeling, it is always nice to see some candor our of hockey players. There’s no sugar coating going on here, and it’s clear how much Elvis cares even though the Jackets are officially eliminated from playoffs.
