Calgary Flames forward Elias Lindholm had the last laugh in his return to Carolina.

The 2013 5th overall pick collected a goal in a 4-3 win over the Hurricanes at PNC Arena and made sure to rub it in a bit in front of the home crowd. As time expired, Lindholm mocked the Canes’ infamous ‘Skol’ celebration by pulling one off of his own as the Flames left the ice. It wasn’t exactly the classiest move, but the 24-year-old claimed his reasoning stemmed from fans booing him as his name appeared on the jumbotron.

Tough to blame the guy!

Okay, so maybe deep down Elias just wanted to get in on the action. These Hurricanes celebrations have become one of the more entertaining stories of the 2018-19 season and have included some truly bizarre elements. The ‘Skol’, however, has been included in all of them.

As a friendly reminder, Lindholm was shipped along with defenceman Noah Hanifin this past summer in exchange for Dougie Hamilton, Michael Ferland and defensive prospect Adam Fox. Each active player has excelled in their new home but the deal has proven to have a bigger impact on the Flames so far as they sit comfortably atop the Western Confernece. Meanwhile, Carolina is three points out of the Eastern Conference’s final spot with 56 points.

There really is nothing like sweet, sweet revenge.
