After 16 seasons under center for the New York Giants, Eli Manning may have just played in his final home game at MetLife Stadium — a 36-20 win against the Miami Dolphins. The Giants are on the road for Week 16, and starting rookie quarterback Daniel Jones could be back from injury in time to start the Giants’ Week 17 home game.
That this was Eli’s possible farewell wasn’t lost on anyone, and as he walked off the field, he got an impressive standing ovation from the crowd.
The 38-year-old was playing in just his fourth game of the season against the Dolphins, having been benched in favour of Jones, this year’s No. 6 pick in the draft, earlier in the season. His contract is up after this season, and it remains to be seen what’s next for Eli.
Still, though, it was great to see him get a chance at a proper send-off from the crowd, and it was definitely a special moment.
And he’s still got it! Manning connected with Golden Tate on a 51-yard touchdown pass to open scoring for the Giants. If this is his last game at home, a blowout win is a nice way to end it.
