Former NHL forward and coach Eddie Olczyk shared some fantastic news with the NHL community this past week as he announced that he’s officially cancer-free during the first intermission of Thursday’s game between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks.
“All the cancer is gone,” he said. “We beat this thing, and I say we because it has been a team effort.”
Past and present players from across the league reached out to Olczyk to congratulate him on the fantastic news, but the best post of all came from Eddie’s son, Nick, a freshman at Colorado College.
“Couldn’t be more proud of my dad and my hero for completing 6 grueling months of chemotherapy, enduring the battle of Colon cancer, and officially establishing a clean bill of health! #CancerFree”
To go with the heartfelt caption, Nick also included some great photos of him and his father over the years, including one from his father’s coaching days in Pittsburgh.
Ed was diagnosed with colon cancer last summer and was told earlier this year on March 14 that his scans were all clear.
Way to go, Eddie!
