Max Pacioretty rumours have been swirling all summer long, and late Sunday night when the trade was announced was the first time we heard anything about what the Canadiens would get in return.

It has surprised people, but mostly because of how extreme the returns on the Canadiens’ trades have been in the past couple of years. Most people actually think of this one as a kind of win-win. The Canadiens continue their pseudo rebuild (Not totally tearing down, but getting a little younger)and the Golden Knights get the type of player they probably should have got for how much they gave up at the trade deadline.

One place that didn’t seem too happy with the trade was NHL 19. When offering the Canadiens that same package and playing as the Golden Knights, Marc Bergevin responds with a pretty angry message.

In case you missed the full details of the trade, it ended up being Max Pacioretty for Tomas Tatar, Nick Suzuki and Columbus’s 2nd-round pick in 2019.

If Habs fans really want to look at this positively, you can compare it to a recent trades that makes it look like a steal. For some reason, the Carolina Hurricanes gave up Jeff Skinner and only got Cliff Pu, a second-round pick in 2019, and third and sixth round picks in 2020. The Senators (While under some bizarre circumstances) basically gave up Mike Hoffman for Mikael Boedker. One of those three trades is definitely better than the others.
