While this year’s dunk contest turned out to be quite the spectacle, there’s no denying that fans are eagerly awaiting the day that Zion Williamson joins the event. The Duke freshman has been an absolute sensation, and he’s expected to be one of the top picks in this June’s draft.
Even Hamidou Diallo is looking forward to their matchup. The Thunder rookie won this year’s dunk contest with a spectacular performance, highlighted by his Shaq-featuring revamp of Vince Carter’s classic elbow dunk, and after the event, he said that he’s in for round two with Zion next year.
Even with a trophy in hand, Diallo surely enters as an underdog in any contest with Zion — we’re not sure just how many players wouldn’t.
The two actually faced off in a high school dunk contest way back in 2016, and if you watch to the 3:23 mark, you’ll actually see Diallo pull the same elbow dunk that he used in last night’s dunk contest. In the end, though, Zion emerged out of that one the winner.
