It happened, the Toronto Maple Leafs fired head coach Mike Babcock.

The news broke on Wednesday afternoon and it didn’t take very long for the team to find a replacement for the 8th winningest coach in NHL history, as they announced that Sheldon Keefe would come up from the Toronto Marlies to take over Babcock’s role.

Hockey fans everywhere posted their reaction to the firing, but The Athletic’s Chris Meaney shared a clip of Dubas talking about what the impact a change in coaching can have on a team at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytic Conference four years ago.

It’s pretty wild how relevant this clip still is four years later.

The Sheldon Keefe chapter in Toronto is officially underway.
