Two years ago, Kansas City Royals catcher Drew Butera made a promise to a young fan named Dagan fighting cancer. “When you kick cancer’s butt,” he wrote, “you can dye my hair any color you want.”
Pretty awesome, right? It’s always a kind gesture when professional athletes reach out and provide struggling young fans with some emotional support, and now officially cancer free, Dagan has come to collect.
Because “any color you want” means any color, Dagan sure made the most of things with the color he picked for Butera’s new ‘do:
Hot pink! Good on Butera for following through, because that dye is freaking bright. In all seriousness, though, it’s an uplifting video, and Dagan joined Butera in dying his hair, so the final shot is really something that warms the heart. A fine way to start your Saturday morning!
It also calls to mind a letter that Indiana Pacers star Victor Oladipo recently wrote to a fan battling leukemia. Three whole paragraphs!
