Drew Brees is retiring from the NFL.
After 20 seasons in the NFL, the New Orleans Saints quarterback took to Instagram to announce the news. He posted a video with an adorable message from his children, who are certainly looking forward to spending more time with their dad.
In the caption, Brees wrote a heartfelt letter to Saints fans. “We shared some amazing moments together, many of which are emblazoned in our hearts and minds and will forever be a part of us. You have molded me, strengthened me, inspired me, and given me a lifetime of memories,” he wrote.
“My goal for the last 15 years was striving to give to you everything you had given to me and more.”
While it was speculated that Brees would consider retirement this offseason, this news still comes as a surprise to NFL fans for its significance.
In a sentimental twist, Brees announces his retirement exactly 15 years to the day that he signed with the Saints — March 14th, 2006.
