The Toronto Maple Leafs were the first team to present to John Tavares and his agency during the grace period before July 1 and it seems like things went pretty well.

While most people would consider the Leafs a long shot to land the star centre, there really is no way for the general public to know what will make his decision for him. Darren Dreger himself said that neither Tavares or his agent Pat Brisson will discuss what they’re feeling before they make their decision.

However, Dreger has his ways to get information from people other than the direct source and from what he calls a “secondary source”, it sounds like the Leafs impressed John Tavares.

The first thing Dreger says in that video is that he feels the Leafs made a good impression, but every fan base in the JT sweepstakes may have gotten a little more hope from what he had to say next:

“If you get through the process of where you’ve negotiated with Lou Lamoriello and the New York Islanders and you’re okay to test your own loyalty by getting into that shopping period, there’s going to be something in those 6, 7, 8 teams, whatever it ends up being, that intrigues you enough”.

It appears as if the decision will be made between these six teams, and the decision period will start tonight.
