Hey, you want to know how to drop your popularity amongst hometown fans by a guaranteed 80 percent or more? Let Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen show you how.
Sunday, the rosters for the 2017 MLB All-Star Game were announced before the start of ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball. Among the players named to the National League team was Clayton Kershaw, Corey Seager, Cody Bellinger and Kenley Jansen. Not among the players named to the team was Justin Turner, the Dodgers third baseman who currently boasts a .388/.473/.565 slash line in 58 games. Jansen was not happy with the news.
It's somewhat understandable why Jansen is mad, as Turner and Seager have both been fantastic this season, and the Dodgers boast one of the largest fanbases in the league, so numbers are certainly on their side when it comes to voting. Also, Turner who is 32 years old likely won't have all that many more opportunities to make it to the midsummer classic.
Still, Jansen's methods seem a little extreme, and we imagine this likely won't play out well for the closer.
