The Seattle Seahawks look to be just about unstoppable right now. Sure, the New England Patriots had a very fair shot at winning the game in Week 2, but it’s difficult not to imagine the ‘Hawks as a contender when Russell Wilson and the offence is moving down the field consistently with ease.
It seriously looks way too easy for them at the moment, but one play from Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys may have been taken a little TOO easy by Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf.
In fact, he essentially committed the cardinal sin of breakaway touchdowns… do NOT ease up until you’ve crossed the goal line.
Not only did the touchdown not count, but he gave up the football to the ‘Boys. When an offensive player fumbles the ball through the back of the end zone, it is ruled a touchback for the defending team.
It’s an odd rule to say the least, but it’s the rule. If anything, it should make offensive players that much more cautious with ball security around the goal line.
He’s not the first to do it. DeSean Jackson infamously dropped the ball as he ran across the goal line, leading to a fumble by rule. Champ Bailey almost had a 100+ yard pick six, but was lit up at the very end by a hustling defender.
Following the lapse in focus from Metcalf, he understandably got roasted by Twitter.
We’re pretty sure this is the sort of mistake he’ll only make once.
