Some things are just better left unsaid.
Montreal Canadians defenceman Jeff Petry’s dad Dan exemplified this to a T when he made a questionable statement involving the Edmonton Oilers. Jeff previously played for the Oilers, whom he failed to make the playoffs with, but things have looked a bit different this year in Montreal. With the Habs in the thick of the Eastern Conference’s playoff race, Dan used their successful season to take a (somewhat?!) indiscrete shot at Edmonton. Guess he truly was just stating the truth…
As it turns out, Dan knows a thing or two about winning. The Palo Alto native enjoyed 13 years in the MLB, capturing a World Series in 1984 with the Detroit Tigers. Dan finished the season with an 18-8 record to go along with a respectable 3.24 ERA so the guy can really say what he wants. Still, a fan felt the need to point out that he didn’t win in Detroit… which just didn’t make a whole lot of sense.
And then a fan was pretty quick to point out that he did in fact win a world series…
Now back to Jeff. Since joining the Habs in the 2014-15 season, Petry has taken his game to new heights. That summer, the American managed to earn a new six-year, $33 million contract and recorded a career-high 42 points following last season. With Edmonton once again on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, it’s no wonder Dan felt a need to bring up his son's former club.
