It’s safe to say Tuesday night was a rough one for newly acquire Maple Leafs goaltender David Rittich.
The 29-year-old was lit up for five goals on 28 shots sent his way in Toronto 6-3 road loss to the Vancouver Canucks. Rittich, who was acquired for a third round pick from the Calgary Flames ahead of the trade deadline, allowed three goals in the last 13:17 of the third period and dropped his third straight since heading to the Leafs. The Czech native had one to blame but himself, shouldering the blame after what probably should have been a win for the Buds. Toronto out-shot Vancouver 40-28 in the defeat.
Hey, at least he was able to own it?
The loss marked the Leafs’ fifth in a row and are just four points ahead of the Winnipeg Jets for the North division lead (and have also played one more game). With Jack Campbell coming back to earth after breaking the all-time record for most wins to start a season, and Freddie Andersen’s health up in the air, there are definitely concerns in the crease as Toronto gears up for the postseason. The Leafs have allowed 26 goals over their last six games.
Time will tell what the Leafs decide to do between the pipes in the postseason but at least Rittich was able to own this one?
