The baseball world held its breath after hearing news of a close call. Legend and three-time World Series Champion David Ortiz had a brush with death on Sunday in the Dominican Republic.
A hero in his native country, many were confused to hear that Ortiz had been shot. While police are still working out the details, and have yet to release the identity of the suspected shooter, it is reported to have been a shot from point blank range, entering his back and damaging his intestines and his liver.
Following the scary happening, Ortiz’s wife Tiffany released the following statement, updating his health and sincerely thanking those involved with his recovery and who have shown him support in other ways.
Earlier, Ortiz’s father Leo also spoke to the media, explaining that he has no idea why his son would have been shot. We will continue to monitor the situation as the facts come out, but for now we just give well wishes to Big Papi.
