David Ayres looked like he was going to be in for a very long night after the first two shots he faced in his NHL career, but the guys in front of him turned things on in the third period and helped him come away with his first career win in what will most likely be his first and only NHL game.

Since Saturday night the 42-year-old has been celebrated in many different ways and the Carolina Hurricanes kept it going on Tuesday.

The day got started in a pretty awesome way for Ayres, as he was dubbed an “Honorary North Carolinian” by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.

That was just the start of a busy day for Ayres, as the Hurricanes flew him out to be the Siren Sounder for Tuesday’s game against the Dallas Stars.

It’s pretty awesome to see the Hurricanes and their fans celebrate Ayres’ success as much as they have, and they’ll continue to do so by selling his shersey in their shop.
