Arizona Coyotes goaltender Darcy Kuemper has found his way to the top of one of those - he leads all goalies in penalty minutes. Saying that, it's not like he's Ron Hextall or Patrick Roy racking up minutes through slashes and fights. He just can't keep the puck down.
He only has 12 minutes, which really isn't anything drastic, but he was surprised to find out that he was actually the leader.
Luckily for the Coyotes, their penalty kill is on another level this year. Their PK ranks 2nd in the league, killing off 85.1% of penalties (Tampa Bay leads the league at 85.8%). On top of that, they've also scored 15 shorthanded goals - five coming from Michael Grabner.
It has sparked a new theory as to why Kuemper keeps sending the puck into the stands:
Other fans are embracing the role, and possibly even want him to take on even more of an enforcer role. Move over, Hextall.
We're thinking maybe not...
