After defeating Stipe Miocic by knockout in the first round of Saturday’s UFC 226 main event, Daniel Cormier became the UFC’s newest heavyweight champion. This, in addition to the light heavyweight title he already held, makes him just the second fighter in UFC history along with Conor McGregor to hold championships in different weight classes at the same time.

You can guess that Cormier was pretty amped up about this.

“Thank you for believing in me. Dreams can come true. Even when you’re older, never give up. It’s awesome. I don’t even know what to say right now, I’m still floating on clouds. It couldn’t have gone any better.” —Daniel Cormier

For the 39-year-old Cormier, who moved up from the light heavyweight class to fight against a heavyweight and ranks as one of the UFC’s top pound-for-pound fighters, it must be incredibly gratifying to pull off a seemingly unlikely win. Cormier was actually able to get up to 246 lbs for the weigh-in, coming in 3.5 pounds heavier than Miocic.

For his part, Miocic doesn’t seem too down on things!

We’ll see how Cormier fares against a potential next challenger in Brock Lesnar, who rushed the stage after Cormier’s call-out in what at least had the surreal feel of a WWE shoot.
