Since the MLB came down on the Houston Astros for their sign stealing scandal in 2017 and 2018, reactions from Astros players have been varied.
Speaking to reporters at the Chicago White Sox fan festival on Friday, Dallas Keuchel became the first player to apologize for the scandal. Keuchel played with the Astros from 2012 to 2018, winning a World Series in 2017.
He adds that the Astros weren’t cheating in every game, and that he expects other players to come out with their own apologies in time.
So, we’re not sure that cheating only sometimes makes it okay. (Alternatively: The Astros can have a little cheating, as a treat!) But it’s noteworthy that Keuchel is owning up to his part, especially since his agent Scott Boras recently made the argument that players did not need to apologize.
So far, Alex Bregman has mostly deferred to the official reports, while Jose Altuve insists things will be fine in the long run.
