A lot was made about the St. Louis Blues’ highly Canadian roster, but another thing to be proud of was their First Nation representation.
The First Nation community was definitely proud as Craig Berube, a Cree from Calahoo, Alberta, was able to hoist the Stanley Cup. This appears to be the first time that someone from the First Nation community has coached a team to the Stanley Cup, so he was played The Honor Song when he brought the Cup home.
He wasn’t the only First Nation representation on the team this year, either.
Jordan Nolan played 14 games for the St. Louis Blues this season and while he didn’t play in the playoffs, we would imagine he’ll get a ring for his contributions.
There are always a lot of special moments as players spend a day with the Stanley Cup and we’re sure there will be plenty more this summer as well. Even on this day, that wasn’t the only special moment as Berube made sure to share the trophy, letting a bunch of locals drink out of the cup.
