Conor McGregor lives to punch people in the face. Alright, maybe it’s a little deeper than that, but it’s something he’s certainly accustomed to. While some fighters seem to treat the sport as an art, others (such as McGregor) seem to genuinely enjoy the brutality they get to unleash on their opponents.

Recently, McGregor proved that he’s not afraid to get involved in altercations outside of his fight nights when he jumped in to the ring in support of his teammate. He got a little physical with the referee, to which he would eventually apologize profusely and generally avoid any further conflict in the situation.

Over the weekend, on the other hand, McGregor may have really stepped over the line

While still unconfirmed, multiple reports are citing McGregor in the involvement of a barroom altercation that apparently had him get physical with some bigtime gangsters. Graham “The Wig” Whelan is one of the country’s most dangerous mafia members, holding a senior position in the Kinahan gang of Dublin, and was apparently very personally connected to the scuffle.

The story goes that “a top Irish Celebrity” or a “well-known Irish sports star” was trying to get at one of Whelan’s associates for hitting a young man from Cremlin (the same city both the gang and McGregor are from), when another one of Whelan’s associates, reported to very possibly be Whelan’s father, stepped in the middle and subsequently got punched in the face. According to the Irish Independent, police reported that no statements were taken and there were no complaints of injury from any of the bars patrons.

The reason why people are speculating that this is involving McGregor is because fans had posted photos of him at the Dublin bar, The Black Forge. Meanwhile, McGregor helped fuel the fire when he posted a short video to his Instagram with his sweater zipped up above his face and captioned as “The celebrity”.

According to the Daily Mail, the Kinahan gang in which Whelan is associated with is reported to be demanding €900,000 in restitution payment from McGregor. With so much disposable income now available, McGregor may want to put his pride aside for this one.
