Connor McDavid was at his best on Monday night, recording the first playoff hat trick of his career. It only took him two periods of the game for him to do his thing, and the Edmonton Oilers needed his performance to the series against the Chicago Blackhawks with an assertive 6-3 win.

Of course, his first playoff hatty comes during an unusual time, with the NHL holding the postseason in hub cities and empty arenas this year, and one of the things we had to get used to was the sight of employee staff at Rogers Place throwing hats in place of any fans able to do so.

Connor McDavid’s thoughts? Well, it’s certainly a classic Connor McDavid opinion on the pomp and ceremony.

We guess when you’re scoring goals in a hurry like he was, you’d rather just get back to it than anything.

There were no hats hitting the ice when Andrei Svechnikov recorded his first playoff hat trick (and the first in Hurricanes franchise history) the day before, but McDavid has the rare fortune of being one of two teams to play at home during the hub city set-up. Or misfortune, depending on how you feel about hats being thrown on the ice after a hat trick.
