Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers couldn’t get the job done in the postseason this year, but he put together one of the greatest regular seasons in NHL history.
McDavid averaged 1.875 points per game and finished the season with 33 goals and 105 points in 56 games to capture his third Art Ross Trophy in five years.
On Thursday night, the NHL released the nominees for this year’s Hart Trophy nominees and the Oilers captain is one of the three finalists.
McDavid can join a legendary list if he takes home the award, as he’ll join Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr, Gordie Howe and Alex Ovechkin as the only players in NHL history to win the Hart Trophy more than once before turning 25 before the end of the season.
That’s not the only list McDavid would join if he wins the award this year as he’ll also become just the 19th player in NHL history to win the Hart Trophy more than once during their career…and he’s only six years into his career.
McDavid only has 407 regular season games to his name but he’s already scored 195 career goals and registered 574 career regular season points in his six seasons.
