Gone are the days that we could call Colin Kaepernick an NFL quarterback, but Emmy Award nominee Colin Kaepernick has a pretty nice ring to it, right?
Nominations for this year’s 71st Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday, and Nike’s “Dream Crazy” commercial is among the nominees in the Outstanding Commercial category.
The commercial stars Colin Kaepernick as the narrator, with appearances from Serena Williams, LeBron James, Alphonso Davies and Shaquem Griffin among others.
It’s a nice bit of recognition for Kaep, especially given his current activism. It isn’t often that you see athletes successfully pivot to other endeavours, although we’re also reminded of Kobe Bryant’s “Dear Basketball” short film that received an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2017.
Kaepernick's Nike spot will go up against commercials from Netfilx, MacBook, Sandy Hook Promise and iPhone for the Emmy.
