There’s a lot that goes into preparing for a hockey game. Every player is different, with some prioritizing pregame routines, others listening to pump up music, and some planning specific meals – if not all three!
One staple of the pregame that works for everyone, however, is a solid pep talk before hitting the ice.
Some coaches are better than others at firing up the team, however you may be hard pressed to find a coach that gets more of an emotional reception than Coach Cal.
Cal made his internet debut last week when the Peterborough Petes shared a video that he had submitted. It was immediately received with heavy praise.
It didn’t take long for the Petes to tap into their newfound hype-man. On Sunday, the team had Cal come into the locker room to read out the starting lineup and fire up the boys.
The speech seemed to work out pretty well, as the Petes jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Ottawa 67’s. While the 67’s scored two goals in the 3rd, it was the Petes skating away with a 3-2 victory.
In summary, we may need more of Coach Cal.
