We know they’re kind of going out of style, but there’s something about a good old-fashioned line brawl that just brings a tear of joy to our eyes and a bit of warmth to our hearts.
This might seem dramatic, but we’re pretty serious.
There’s something nostalgic about a good rivalry that sees two teams absolutely hate one another to the point where every player on the ice simply has to drop their gloves and find a dance partner in whoever’s closest to them at that exact moment.
But you know when the rivalry is legit? When it’s so intense that it boils over during a scrimmage game for charity.
No, seriously.
Last night, the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Clemson Tigers club hockey teams (we know, we didn’t know they existed either) hosted a charity game in support of Matt Brickley, who was a prominent figure in Utah Hockey that passed away last week following a courageous battle with cancer.
The game was a double header, that saw the two college teams face off, followed immediately by the ECHL’s Atlanta Gladiators and the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, all in support of Brickley’s family.
This charity game was for a wonderful cause, but it was still a hockey game that involved two teams that apparently have a pretty intense rivalry.
And so, rivalry hockey activities ensued.
Those are not charity game swings, folks.
It seems like these two teams already had a serious hate on for one another, and South Carolina was already throwing chirps around before the game even started.
We might not have known they existed yesterday, but today, we are fans.
