In the game of hockey, there’s a certain “code” players must abide by. Whether it’s fighting, cheaply hitting an opponent with a dirty elbow or spear, there are just some things that cross the line and break the code.

Depending on the severity of what a player does, he’ll have to answer to either an opponent, or the NHL Player Department of Safety.

At the end of the Habs and Avalanche game on Wednesday night, Habs forward Charles Hudon loaded up for a shot in the dying seconds of the game, and by all accounts, he broke that sacred code. As you can see in this screenshot below, the clock has hit 0.00 with no time left. Hudon hadn’t even wound up yet, as he started to stick handle the puck before rifling it on net.

Hudon clearly takes the shot with his head up after the game is over with his team out of the game down 2-0. Now, it’s important to note that he gets the shot off before the buzzer goes, which obviously the players use to let them know a period is concluded or a game is done with.

The puck ends up hitting an unsuspecting Patrick Nemeth in the head. At that point, everyone knows the game is over, but Hudon decides to ring one up high.

You can see why the Avs would be upset with Hudon. He’s lucky nobody really took exception to what he did.

TSN colour commentator Dave Poulin was pretty critical of Hudon's actions.

So what do you think? Is this a cheap play by Hudon? Are asking yourself what’s the point of even doing something dangerous like that, or are you okay with Hudon playing to the very end of the game?
