There were a lot of good wide receivers selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, with one of the highly rated one being CeeDee Lamb, who was selected 17th overall by the Dallas Cowboys.
If the 21-year-old lives up to expectations, he’s bound to be a fan favourite right off the bat in Dallas which would result in a lot of jersey sales with his name on it. For Lamb, he’d like for his NFL number to be 10, even though he wore numbers 9 and 2 with Oklahoma.
However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has a different number in mind for his newest wide receiver.
While Lamb would like to wear No. 10 with the Cowboys, Jones is hoping he’ll wear No. 88 instead. Sure, the Cowboys have had some great players such as Michael Irvin, Drew Pearson and Dez Bryant wear No. 88 in the past, but that’s not entirely the reason why Jones wants Lamb to go with 88.
According to Blogging the Boys, Jones also wants Lamb to wear No. 88 in honour of his late friend and teammate Jerry Lamb, who Jones won a national championship with at Arkansas.
“When we were, this is a little drama from our perspective, when we were all sitting there and had said our piece, and then we said, ‘okay, what’s it going to be?” I said in honor of my great friend that just passed this year we’re going to have his namesake come on here and wear old number 88,” Jones explained. “Just like Michael and Dez and those guys, and we’ve got us a wide receiver. And let me tell you one thing if he’s got the competes and heart of that Jerry Lamb he’ll be bad to the bone.”
To some people a jersey number is just a number and doesn’t mean anything, but to others it means everything.
