It was always going to be hard to say how the city of Cleveland would react to LeBron James leaving for the Los Angeles Lakers, and it was especially going to be hard to say how Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert would respond. When LeBron last signed away from Cleveland, Gilbert penned an infamous open letter that called his decision a “cowardly betrayal” (and boldly so, in Comic Sans).

Well, Gilbert has shared another letter for LeBron on his latest free agency move, and this one is thankfully free of bitterness as well as Comic Sans.

"Nothing but appreciation and gratitude for everything you put into every moment you spent in a Cavaliers uniform,” writes Gilbert. It’s a very gracious letter indeed, and directly references a jersey retirement in the future for LeBron’s number 23. Of course, that’s no surprise for one of basketball’s greatest ever.

Just for fun, let’s take a note at the original letter that Glibert wrote.

So much childishness. And we’re not just talking about the font.

Of course, after delivering a ring to Cleveland and mending fences with the local community in countless other ways, the circumstances for LeBron’s departure are greatly different this time around. We can see, even after his decision to leave again, that his fans in Cleveland are remaining faithful, even showing up en masse to purchase James' Lakers jersey.

Looks like the fans in Cleveland are still going to have LeBron's back in L.A. 👀
