LeBron James crushed Cleveland Cavaliers fans when he took his talents to South Beach back in 2010, so if the 4-time NBA MVP declines his 2018 player option things are going to get very messy in Cleveland.
Fans across the league spent parts of the regular season trying to persuade the three-time NBA champion to sign with their team in the offseason by putting up massive billboards around town, but now a Cavs fan is taking things to the next level.
As a way to show appreciation for LeBron and everything he’s done for the city, as well as a way to get him to stick around, Aaron Carey started a GoFundMe campaign in hopes of putting up a statue of King James in his hometown of Akron, Ohio. The goal of this campaign: $1 million.
The first 15 donors of $30,000 or more will receive a limited edition miniature replica of the statue signed by the creator, while five miniature replica statures will be auctioned off to the highest bidders.
LeBron was asked about the statue during the Cavs’ shootaround on Monday afternoon and he was very appreciative of the thought of it.
If it doesn’t happen now we’re sure there will be a statue of LeBron James in Akron at some point in the near future.
