Dakota Hudson entered the 2018 season as the 4th ranked prospect in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, but he’s hoping his name won’t be on the list net season and will instead be a permanent one on the Cardinals’ 40-man roster.

The 23-year-old was dominant at the Triple-A level this season going 13-3 with 87 strikeouts and a 2.50 ERA over 111.2 innings. His outstanding campaign earned him a promotion to the big league club last week but he got the news in the most interesting way possible.

Last Wednesday, the Memphis Redbirds were in Utah for a meeting with the Salt Lake Bees. Hudson started the game and a bit of a rough first inning, so when he got a visit at the mound in the second inning he probably wasn’t expected to be told he’s heading to St. Louis to join the Cards.

Hudson made his MLB debut on Saturday in Chicago against the Cubs, where he struck out two batters and gave up zero hits in his lone inning of work.
