A lot of hockey fans and analysts didn’t really give the Montreal Canadiens much of a shot heading into this season, but they’ve managed to shock the hockey world early into the season as they’re currently hovering near the top of the Eastern Conference standings.

One of the biggest reasons for their early season success has been the play of Carey Price. Through his first seven starts of the season, the 31-year-old has posted a 4-1-2 record and one shutout to go with a 2.13 goals against average and a .922 save percentage, and he’s looked a lot like his old self. During the team’s past two-game road trip, Price passed Patrick Roy on the team’s all-time wins list by earning his 290th victory in a Habs uniform.

The Canadiens returned home on Tuesday night to host the Dallas Stars for their first home game since Price moved up in the record books and Habs fans made sure to give him his overdue standing ovation during a break in the action.

Price’s name is a familiar one in the franchise’s record books as he owns the franchise record for most games played by a goalie (565), minutes played by a goalie (33,330 minutes), and it’s only a matter of time until he takes over the spot for most career wins in a Canadiens’ uniform.
