You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away and know when to run. You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table. There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealing's done.
Everyone knows those famous lyrics from the song "The Gambler" and they apply to many situations in life, as well as the most obvious situation, at the poker table.
It's exhilarating to watch players go all-in and see what cards come up, but it's just as exhilarating (and maybe even more impressive) to see players fold a good hand knowing they're probably beat. That's what separates the good poker players from great poker players and as you'll soon see, Canadian poker legend Daniel Negreanu is an all-time great player.
Listening to Negreanu talk the situation out loud to himself really gives you a good sense of the inner workings of his mind when he's at the table.
A lot of people in that situation would call with that hand, but Daniel is not your average player and even after he folded the hand, you could hear other players somewhat shocked that he folded the hand he did.
You got to know when to fold 'em and Negreanu knew in that situation to do just that.
