Canadian IndyCar driver Robert Wickens was hospitalized after a terrifying crash in August, when his car was launched into the air and spun wildly into the fence. As a result, he reportedly suffered a fractured spinal cord and neck.
Speaking in public for the first time since the wreck, Wickens took to Twitter with an update on his rehabilitation progress, as well as wishing good luck to the drivers at today’s race in Sonoma, the final race of the IndyCar season.
“I’m in rehab now, trying to get back to 100 percent as soon as possible, but I don’t know what the future holds for me. It’s going to be a very long road to recovery. All I can say is I’m going to work as hard as possible, train as hard as possible, to make sure I’m back in a race car as quickly as possible.” —Robert Wickens
It’s encouraging to see that Wickens seems to be well on his path to recovery, and hopefully he’ll be able to make his return to IndyCar sooner rather than later.
Two weeks ago, Wickens clinched the 2018 IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year award, despite missing the last three races of the season due to his injuries.
