Known for making big saves on the ice, Calgary Flames goaltender Cam Talbot flashed the leather and helped the University of Alabama-Huntsville keep its NCAA Div 1 hockey program. Talbot spearheaded the GoFundMe page that eventually gave the program a second life-line, the team announced on Friday night.

Speaking with NHL.com, Talbot felt he owed something to the program that helped him get to the NHL.

"The program meant a lot to me," said Talbot via NHL.com's William Douglas.

"I never thought that it would really kind of grow to allow me to live out my dream like I am now. I wouldn't have gotten this opportunity if I didn't end up in Alabama."

Back on May 22nd, the school's president announced the university would be cutting the men's team, as well as the male and female tennis teams.

But the school said if they could raise over $500,000, they would keep the program alive following the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I'm extremely excited that the program will continue on," Talbot followed up.

"Don't get us wrong, there's still a lot of work to be done. But this was the first hurdle and we couldn't be more ecstatic from the support we've gotten."

Currently, the school is the only Division I program in the Southeast region of the United States.
