I DON’T MEAN TO GO ALL SHAKESPEAREAN, BUT THE NHL PLAYOFFS HATH ARRIVED!

The time of year hockey fans look forward to as soon as the Stanley Cup is raised, the playoffs are now officially underway. Even though we knew it was going to be good, the games so far have been SO good.

Three games in the books, all of which went to overtime. That’s the kind of hockey we live for.

For Minnesota Wild goaltender Cam Talbot, the overtime win was a little extra special. He came out on top of an absolute duel in the crease, outlasting Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury for the 1-0 win.

For Talbot, it’s the third NHL team that he’s recorded a shut out for. He had one for each side of the Battle of Alberta before recording one with the Wild on Sunday, tying him for 3rd on the all-time list.

Only Curtis Joseph has recorded more, doing so with Toronto, Edmonton, St. Louis, and Detroit.

To make the stat even more impressive, Talbot actually recorded two shutouts with both the Oilers and the Flames.

Talbot has shutout his opponent in 21% of the playoff games he’s started.

He started in Edmonton’s crease for all 13 games they played in the 2017 NHL Playoffs, losing a 2-1 nail biter to the Ducks in Game 7 of the second round.

In 2020, Talbot started all 10 of the Flames’ playoff games. Per NHL.com, this includes the qualifying round against Winnipeg. Talbot shut the Jets out 4-0 to eliminate them.
