What’s the greatest feeling you can have each time you step to the plate in an MLB game?
The easy answer is the feeling you get when you hear the crack of your bat as it launches a moonshot that no outfielder in the whole world would be able to keep in the park. It’s an easy trot around the bases as you prepare for a friendly mobbing in the dugout from teammates just as excited as you.
We would argue that the feeling you get from an inside-the-park home run is even greater.
It’s rare, it’s unexpected, it gets more and more exciting the closer a player gets to home plate… an inside-the-park home run is earned, and also something that not every player can do.
Even by inside-the-park home run standards, Brett Phillips scamper around the bases to put the Tampa Bay Rays up 6-1 on the Baltimore Orioles was electric.
After the game, a very excited Phillips explained the feeling as he reached home plate, and also took time to thank the fans for helping to give him that extra juice.
What a moment for Phillips… and for the rest of us, for that matter!
